We Have The Power To Compile A New Register- NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Organizer for Amasaman Constituency, Hajia Salamatu Musah has revealed that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) now has the power and mandate to compile a new voter’s register for the 2020 general election.

Speaking as a panel member on Anopa Nkomo with Kwame Tutu on Accra based Kingdom FM, she disclosed that, “We wanted a new credible register in 2012 but we didn’t get, now we are in power and we have the power to do a new register”.

She argued that “during the 2012 general election, the NDC’s compiled a new register six (6) months to the election, so if we also want to compile a new register for 2020 elections, should that cause any harm?”

Hajia Salamatu Musah, however, alleged that former President John Dramani Mahama influenced the former EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei to speak out against the intended compilation of a new voter’s register during the general elections in 2012 because it was needless.

“We wanted a new voter’s register when we were in opposition but John Mahama made us know that they were in power and was able to convince Charlotte Osei to resist the decision to compile a new register. John Mahama said Ghanaians should allow the EC to do its job because they are an independent body” she said.

Commenting on the mammoth demonstration organized by the biggest opposition party NDC and the other smaller parties under the umbrella, Inter-party resistance against New Voters Register, the ruling NPP Women’s Organizer indicated that every Ghanaian has the right to go on demonstration.

Adding “what I can see about the demonstration is that during the 2016 elections, a lot of them didn’t vote so they are using this demonstration as a tool to organize themselves together for the 2020 general elections.

“So must we sit there for the NDC to dictate for us,” she quizzed.
