Communication Team Member of the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC), Owusu Banahene has accused the Government of conspiring with the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the impending 2020 general election.
According to him, the NIA’s total reliance on the Birth Certificate and Passport as the main registration requirements for the Ghana Card was problematic and would disenfranchise a lot of Ghanaians.
He disclosed that, this is a clear indication that the New Patriotic Party wants to rig the 2020 elections.
“We don’t understand why the EC is taking a radical approach in creating a new voters register, upgrading of voters register is not important we smell something fishy the EC and the NPP are planning to rig the 2020 elections, ” Owusu Banahene told Okatakyire Obeng Mensah on ‘Anopa Nkomo’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7
‘‘Sensing Ghanaians are so early getting disappointed and fed-up, and are therefore likely to vote out the NPP in 2020, the ruling party, this paper has gathered, have concluded that the surest way to secure a second term is to skew the election in its favour,”he added
Owusu Banahene explained that they are worried as a party because a person who represents an institution of the government in power should not have interest in issues of the Electoral Commission.
