The question about who partners the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama as a running mate has been a huge debate in the country in recent times.
The ruling New Patriotic Party has been interested in the running mate position of the umbrella family going into the 2020 general elections.
A Member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Team, Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah has said that no member of the NDC who traces its origin from the Central Region is willing to partner the flagbearer of the opposition NDC John Dramani Mahama as a running mate due to his ‘selfish’ political interest.
The NPP Communications Team Member without mincing words alleged that, Ghana and the opposition NDC lost a sitting President, late Prof Evans Atta Mills and an ex Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur because of John Mahama.
“No Fante of the NDC in this country will accept an offer to partner John Dramani Mahama as a running mate because they do not want to ruin their political career” he told Reynolds Agyemang on Pae Mu Ka on Accra base Kingdom FM
“NDC as a political party is deadly”, he added.
According to Nana Kwadwo, some members of the ‘Umbrella’ family use Bawumia as a standard in the selection of a candidate to partner their flagberaer, ex-President John Dramani Mahama as the party’s Vice Presidential candidate.
In addition, he indicated that the opposition NDC lacks members that can match the caliber and integrity of Ghana’s Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.
“NDC as a political party, from John Mahama to the ‘cleaner’ in the party, there is nobody who can match the integrity of Dr Bawumia and that is their problem”, he fumed.
Speaking on the same platform, he hinted that the ruling NPP will go ahead with it presidential and parliamentary primaries as soon President Akuffo Addo lifts the ban on social gatherings.
NPP as a political party believes in governance. Our President [Akuffo-Addo] has said that due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic he has placed restrictions on social gatherings, and we respect his decision and so we will not go against it. If the ban is lifted today, then we will also go ahead with our primaries to elect our Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate
