The New Juaben North Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang in an interview has rubbished arguments made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new voter’s register as a game plan towards 2020 general election.
Speaking in an interview with Lawyer Ohene Gyan on ‘Pae Mu Ka‘ on Accra base Kingdom FM 107.7 the New Juaben North Chairman argued that “All the issues that the NDC are making that the EC didn’t sit down with us before making such decision, the cost involved in compiling a new register, the budget can be used to construct roads and other infrastructures in the country is a game plan that they sat down to plan in 2018. What they plan to do in ‘Agenda 2020’ is the reason why they are doing this”.
Chairman Kwadwo Boateng alleged that NDC’s reasons against the decision made by the EC to compile new voters’ register are to keep Super Tech Limited (STL) in order to win their sympathy for the 2020 general election.
“NDC’s reason against the EC’s decision to compile a new voter’s register is because STL contract has expired. So they are doing this to keep STL in order for them to clinch victory since STL is the one handling our data. They want to win sympathy from STL” he revealed.
The EC, under the leadership of Charlotte Osei, awarded the biometric data contract to Super Tech Limited (STL) in 2011 to take charge of the Commission’s data and Biometric Verification Devices (BVD).
He, therefore, challenged the largest opposition NDC not to partake in the new voters’ registration process since they are against the decision made by the Electoral Commission to compile a new register.
“What I’m telling the NDC is that what they did to the referendum, they can do the same thing to the registration. They should tell all their members not to take part in the registration process because they’re not in support, adding you know how they are, so confused, and their minds are scattered all over. Registration is a citizen’s right and not the NDC right. All the noise that the NDC is making and will not allow the EC to perform its duties means they don’t have principles, he fumed.
“The demonstration the NDC’s are doing should be their plans for a message. We don’t have a problem if they want to be in opposition but they shouldn’t try to put fear into the EC,” he jabbed.
