Former president John Dramani Mahama has disputed claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will scrap the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy implemented by under the Akufo-Addo-led government.

It would recall that in February, 2020, Mr Mahama in what the opposition NDC titled “Speak Out” tour as part of his re-election bid for 2020 following his massive defeat as incumbent in 2016 said, ‘He brought Free SHS’

He said, “Free SHS is good. If anyone stands anywhere and says that I, John Mahama, will cancel Free SHS tell the person he or she is a liar,” adding, “I haven’t said anywhere that when we come to power we are going to cancel the policy. We started it with day students and we were going to expand it when, unfortunately, we left office.”

“Free SHS has come to stay. If anyone comes to you that I, John Mahama, the son of E.A. Mahama is going to cancel FREE SHS, tell that person he or she is a bloody liar. What I am against is the poor implementation that has put a lot of burden of parents”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched Government’s Free Senior High School Policy, making good his resolve to ensure accessible, equitable, quality and life-changing education for every Ghanaian child.

The Free Senior High School program is a flagship intervention by the Government to widen the gates of opportunities to every child, especially those whose talents are arrested because of poverty.
