EC Satisfied With First Day Of Voter’s Registration Exerci …
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has expressed satisfaction with events on the first day of the compilation of the new voters register across the country.
Registration of voters ahead of the 2020 general elections started on Tuesday, June 30, across the country.
According to the country’s election management body, although it is pleased with the events of the first day, the EC noted that they were some few issues with the registration process which it said are yet to be addressed.
In a statement signed by the EC’s acting Director of Public Affairs, Sylvia Annoh, all reports reaching the Commission depict a positive turnout at all Registration Centers.
“The Commission is aware that some Centers recorded high numbers leading to some overcrowding”, she said
The statement therefore assured that, “we are taking steps to work with the Security Agencies to address possible overcrowding at our Registration Centers”,
However, the Commission says it has taken note of a photograph making rounds on social media purporting to be a scene at a registration center.
It says the photograph does not show the usual registration center set up that characterizes all EC’s registration Centers, saying “it just shows a large crowd gathered together in an area”.
“Again, the originator of the photograph does not indicate the registration center where the photograph was taken”, it added.
This is not a registration center of the EC and we call on the public to disregard it, the Commission said.
Meanwhile, the Commission has announced the movement plan for the ongoing voter registration exercise.
It says the plan can be accessed via the EC website www.ec.gov.gh, EC’s Social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
