COVID-19: Ghana’s Economy Cannot Support Total Lockdow …
Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Hon Dr. Kwaku Afriyie believes that even though a lockdown of Ghana will help to stop the spread of COVID-19, it could also result in chaos.
According to the former Health Minister, it will be ideal for Ghana to go into lockdown now but the leadership of the country should think about the masses first, in case that hard decision will come up because it could have a negative impact.
“I think that when the country is on total lockdown, there’ll be chaos and discomforts in the system due to lack of food,’’ Hon Dr. Kwaku Afriyie exclusively told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7
“I don’t think we are ready. If it gets to the point where it has to be done then it has to be done not because we are ready but it just has to be done.
“Making the call for a lockdown is very easy but the ramification and the implications will not help at all,’’ he added.
“From the medical point of view I can associate them that a lockdown will be their prescription but that decision that not rest solely on the medical field.’
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie said the decision to lockdown the country should not rest only on health grounds but on other key sectors of the economy including businesses.
