Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency in the Oti Region, Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah has said Madam Jean Mensa cannot rescind her decision over the compilation of a new voters’ register just because it was a contract she signed with President Akufo-Addo before her appointment as Electoral Commission Chairperson.

According to him, Akufo-Addo is behind her decision to compilation a new voter’s register ahead of 2020 elections.

“Ghana’s current voters’ register is one of the cleanest and most credible the country has ever had in its history and at large in the world, I don’t  understand  why we need to waste another money to do a new register, “Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah told Okatakyire Obeng Mensah on ‘Anopa Nkomo’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

He added that “this should as well be a wake-up call to Jean Mensa to decide on doing that which is right for the peace of the nation and respect proper stakeholder meetings, which will make her office credible”.

The compilation of a new voter register will begin in the last week of June and end in the last week of July, the Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed, ahead of the announcement of the precise dates.

According to the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Eric Bossman Asare , the exercise will start in the last week of June and end in the last week of July.
