COVID-19 HITS AHAFO REGION.
The Ahafo Regional Health Directorate has confirmed that the region has recorded its first positive case of the novel Coronavirus disease bringing the number of total regions with cases to 14 out of 16.
According to the Regional Health Director, Dr. Boakye Boateng, the case which is an imported one from Obuasi East in the Ashanti Region was detected at Derma in the Tano South District.
In an interview, Dr. Boakye Boateng said the infected person who is a male(name withheld) aged 20 years was found out to be positive of COVID-19 as a result of contact tracing in the Obuasi East after the needed testing procedure was conducted with the positive result popping up on 12th May, 2020.
On the 22nd April 2020 after his blood sample was taken for testing in the Obuasi East District, the infected person left to Derma to visit his family so on the 12 th May 2020, the Health Director of Obuasi East prompted the Ahafo Health Directorate of his presence.
Dr. Boateng said the Health Team of Tano South did a marvellous job by searching for the infected person around 10pm, Tuesday 12th May 2020. He was then taken to the Takyi Mantia Polyclinic the isolation centre to find a better place to quarantine him.
“He is in a good condition” the Ahafo Regional Health Director disclosed.
He further said, his(infected person) blood sample has been taken again to verify for the second time if he is positive of COVID-19.
Now contact list and contact tracing are been conducted to assist track all persons associated with the infected person for sanity to prevail. About 15 to 20 persons who stay with him are to be placed in an isolation centre for testing to begin.
Dr. Boakye Boateng appealed to Ahafo Residents to respect all the preventive protocols now that a case has hit the region.
