COVID-19 : Government Needs Ghc17 Billion To Shape Ghana’s Economy- Alex Mould

Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Alex K. Mould has revealed that Ghana needs Ghc17 billion to shape the Economy amidst the devastating impact of the Coronavirus epidemic.

According to him, the latest reports of Bank of Ghana on economic data pointing that the government has lost revenue due to low generation of income from taxes which is not a real good indicator to the country.

“For now things are not going well with the economy because of the lost taxes due to the Coronavirus epidemic,”Alex Mould told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

“I’m urging President Akufo-Addo and his government to learn fast from other countries handling COVID-19 and adapt what has worked to slow down its spread to suit our environment in Ghana”,he added

He argued that from a cash management perspective there was the need for the government to focus more on its own revenue as against the debts accrued.

He said taxes play a major role, especially in ensuring the redistribution of wealth in every country from rich individuals, funding essential public services and tackling poverty.

According to him, tax justice as a principle is about how taxes are raised and are spent; therefore equality in its collection must be a critical national concern for all public sector workers and society as a whole.
