Close Down Schools Immediately Before COVID-19 Situation Get …
President of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu has urged government to close down schools immediately due to the spike of coronavirus cases in various Senior High Schools.
According to him, after reopening of schools many students have tested positive for the virus which is a worrying situation
But as reports have emerged about students at the Accra Girls SHS testing positive for coronavirus, Angel Carbonu says government must take a second look at the decision because if the students end up unwell or die, they cannot write the exams.
“It sounds like what we foresaw is, unfortunately, coming to bear. The fact of the matter is that Accra Girls is not the only Senior High School in this country, they do not operate in isolation and the students do not come from isolated geographical entities so only God knows what the situation may be in other Senior High Schools.”
“From where I sit now, before we get to a point where we cannot control, I think we should bite the bullet and close down the schools. That is my personal opinion. The way things are going, I can assure you the story is not looking too pleasant,” he added.
The President in his 10th address to the Nation on measures put in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country announced the reopening of schools but for only final year students of Junior High School, Senior High School and Tertiary institutions after he directed all schools in the country to be closed from March 16.
