Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) has announced that normal power supply would be restored in Kumasi by December 20, 2021.

Some parts of Kumasi are currently experiencing power outages in the evenings for the past two weeks.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Tuesday November 30, 2021, Ing. Vincent Boakye, the northern sector director of GRIDCo said the frequent power outages in the Kumasi metropolis is connected to recent damage of their tower at Bogoso in the western region.

According to him, three of their towers were affected after a communication mask felt on 330kv Aboadze-Kumasi transmission line at Bogoso hence affecting power supply from Aboadze to the region.

He said, currently they are supplying power to Kumasi from Akosombo generation station and power generation enclave in Tema.

“Kumasi and its environs consume 340MW at peak time in the evening and if they are unable to get the exact amount of power then they have to manage the little power they get hence the power outages in the evening” he added.

They have commenced work on the collapsed towers to ensure that, the lines are restored for normal power supply to Kumasi, he added.
