MY VISIT TO THE EASTERN REGION DOES NOT RELATE TO KYEKEWERE …
The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour has denied reports purporting that his visit to the Eastern Region was about the recent accident which occurred at Kyekyewere near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Tuesday September 15, 2020.
Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Anopa Nkomo on Accra base Kingdom FM, the Nkawkaw Constituency MP said, “I heard the news yesterday morning that a Cargo truck had crashed into two buses killing 14 people and 30 severely injured. Upon hearing this, I immediately assigned my Deputy Minister to Suhum hospital for confirmation.”
He further reiterated that, his visit to the area with the Road Agency Management team as well as the Media was to monitor and inspect projects (roads) being constructed in the Region.
“My visit to the region was just a coincidence,” he said.
Speaking on the same platform, he advised drivers to drive with extra care and vigilance during this election and festive (Christmas) season.
He stressed that, some accidents are inevitable but care could be taken in order to stop them from occurring.
Further, he urged the Road Safety Commission, Motor Transport and Traffic Unit MTTU and Drivers Union to provide effective training skills including defensive driving to drivers before they are given the permit to drive.
