The Deputy Minister of Defence ,Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd) has disclosed that presence of Military personnel in Ketu South is to reduce the number of foreigners into the country and prevent covid-19 infiltrators from entering the country through unapproved routes.
He said this after some residents of Ketu South in the Volta region argued over the heavy presence of soldiers in the constituency making them feel uncomfortable.
In relating to heavy security presence in Ketu South, the leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), KT Hammond in his view said the presence of the military in Ketu South is to insure only Ghanaians who have the constitutional right to vote are made to register and subsequently vote in the December 7 election.
According to him, the Military men are deployed on the borders to maintain peace and stability in the region during EC registration.
Speaking with the media, Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd) said security forces have been deployed to all exit and entry points in the country and that Ketu South is not an exception.
Immigration officers and military personnel have been put at vantage points to protect the country. The security forces are in all the four border towns and this has been the norm for quite some time now,” he said.
Meanwhile, Security Analyze Festus Aboagye said the government should have used the right channel by announcing the closure of borders and deployment of military personnel before deploying them to the regions.
