Men Should Share House Chores With Women – YUWM

The Young Urban Women Movement (YUWM) under Action Aid Ghana has called on men across the world to support and share house chores with women at home.

They believe these house chores which are classified as unpaid care works should be shared among men to reduce the burden on women at home.

They made this call when YUWM and Action Aid as part of its commitment of helping recognize the various unpaid care works of women at home organized cooking competition for men to mark the International Women’s Day Celebration in Accra.

Action Aid Ghana (AAG) an Affiliate of Action Aid, a global Justice federation working to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication in collaboration with Promoting Opportunities For Women Empowerment And Rights (POWER) Project organized the programme.

But, speaking to Kingdom FM’s Samuel Opoku, the Chairperson for Young Urban Women Movement (YUWM), Helen Quansah stressed that, it is high time men started supporting women at home by sharing house chores since it overburdens women.

She used the opportunity and appeal to the government to help put up daycare centers for women to go leave their little babies there and attend to their official work.

Speaking to Kingdom News, some of the men who took part in the cooking competition outlined the need for men to also support their wives at home to release them of the pressure of house chores.
