Veteran contemporary Ghanaian singer, Alfred Benjamin Crentsil, known by stage name A. B. Crentsil, has broken his silence on what had all the earmarks of being a legend about a severe encounter he experienced up north, over his popular ‘Atia’ song.
The highlife musician on speaking on Accra-based Kingdom Plus FM admitted he had gotten away from the beatings of his life in the north over the ‘Atia’ melody.
‘Atia’ by A. B. Crentsil, after its delivery many years prior, started series of debates as a segment of northerners asserted it depicted them as lushes and along these lines, requested the melody be removed and the performer apologizes to the bosses and individuals of the space.
After that bitter experience, the performer with his band visited the north as was found in those days for shows in different towns yet during one of such excursions, inhabitants intended to have him beaten over the maligning verses of the melody.
Describing what truly unfolded, he said “I chose not to perform Atia that evening however the fans called for it. They said if I performed it they planned to give me the beatings of my life.
“So I chose to escape through a close-by ranch and that goaded the crowd who obliterated our band’s things, including our drum set and an enhancer however the police came to reestablish quiet,” he uncovered
