 Gov’t Would Strengthen Local Government Structures – Ntim

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Augustine Collins Ntim, has echoed government’s commitment to rally on structures to help support the decentralization process and transform local governance.

According to Mr Ntim, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso North Constituency, said, the government plan is to empower the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to meet the prioritized needs of the people in local communities.

Speaking on Accra-Based Kingdom Fm ‘Anopa Nkomo’ with Kwaku Dawuro, said the proper and effective functioning of local government structures was critical to achieving the government’s aim of improving the lives of the people, especially those in rural communities over the years.

‘’I can tell you the fact that under President Akufo – Addo government things have changed and the local government is doing well to touch the lives of every person in their communities’’ he mentioned.

In order to look at the needs of the people in our communities government has created what we call ‘Constituency Development Fund’ The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is a type of decentralised government funding that is supposed to deliver goods and services directly to constituents by providing additional funds for local community development.

The Municipal and District Assemblies depend on that money to help develop their communities, it is not a huge amount of money but they make sure they use it in developing their areas, Ntim said.

He therefore urged members of the Local Government, Municipal and District Assembly members to support the government by using the little fund given to them to develop their communities.
