The Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, Sylvester Tetteh has called for the ban of telenovelas from airing on our local television stations.

According to him, telenovelas are taken the lid off the Ghanaian movie industry.

He noted that “the telenovelas are ‘killing’ the industry so they should stop all these Mexican things they have been showing; I will say this over and over again. They should rather concentrate on finding a way to revive the Ghanaian movie industry.

“I’m calling for a ban on telenovelas from all private TV stations, we should ban it. We should concentrate on how to produce more Ghanaian movies and series, to rekindle the local interest. If possible the TV stations should raise a budget to produce the kind of drama series which can ‘wrestle’ with these telenovelas,’’ Sylvester Tetteh exclusively told Reynold Agyemang on ‘Pae Mu Ka’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

He stated that television stations that show these series with the aim of entertaining their viewers are making things difficult for actors and movie producers in the country.

Sylvester Tetteh further added that TV stations pay a higher amount of money to movie producers who submit these soap operas to them than those who present local movies.
