The Deputy Minister Designate for Trade and Industries, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi has charged African Leadership to take advantage of The Africa Free Trade Area agreement to eradicate poverty from the African Continent.

The move he believe will create a lot of Jobs for many Africa Youth, with unemployment challenge a greater Canker to Humans and Economical growth a common experience shared by many African Countries.
Responding to questions put to him by a Member of the Appointments Committee of Parliament who is also the Majority chip whip, Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh during the vetting of the nominee on Wednesday, the Minister designate shared more light on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and how the country can take advantage of it, through which he opined that, the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement will create the largest free trade area in the world measured by the number of countries participating. The pact connects 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) valued at US$3.4 trillion. which has the potential to lift 30 million people out of extreme poverty, but achieving its full potential will depend on putting in place significant policy reforms and trade facilitation measures.

Speaking on how Ghana can position itself and leverage it way through the agreement, the nominee who is also the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency, was passionate to say he sees the agreement as a savior and would entreat all African leaders to take advantage of it.
”I see the Africa Continental free trade area as a savior and the biggest trade block, an opportunity for African leaders to take due advantage of the agreement. We are going to see more growth in insurance, and in banking sectors and i believe that it is going to benefit the Petty Trader, Small Medium Enterprises(SME’s) and also promote businesses in Ghana”, he said.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Pending Parliamentary approval will be second to Hon. Yaw Barimah a Former Minister for works and Housing under the erstwhile President Kufour admistraton as the only MP’s from New Juaben South Constituency to have served as Ministers.
He is expected to team up with Hon. Kwadwo Alan Kyeremanteng the Minister of Trade and Industries together with his colleague subordinates, Hon. Nana Ama Dokua, and Mr. Henry Krapah who are yet to be approved and vetted respectively to improve industrialization and Trading in the country.
