Deputy NLA Boss Humiliates NPP Essikado-Ketan; Party Folks Cautions Against Her Contest In Primaries

The early signals firing at the Deputy CEO for the National Lottery Authority, Anna Horma Miezeh may cause party leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency and the Western Region to be concerned about their prospects going into 2024 parliamentary elections. Following a political embarrassment caused by Madam Horma Miezah at the just ended Kuntum festival, party supporters have started lamenting and cursing leadership should they ever allow her to contest the NPP Essikado-Ketan primaries.

Reports as gathered from the constituency over the weekend indicate that Horma Miezah sponsored Aya Ramzy B, a Takoradi-based artist to perform at the Kuntum festival, in her bid to gain political favour from the constituents. Unfortunately, the artist identified with his sponsor [Horma Miezah] as the 2020 parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah.

For about 5 minute prior to his performance on stage, Aya Ramzy B sung the praise of the NDC candidate, and even campaigned for votes for her candidature in the coming elections. So scandalous, and thus caused an impression of a rather misfired political strategy by Hormah Miezah to register her interest with the people of Essikado-Ketan.

This development has been capitalized on by the NDC, and Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah is ridiculing the NPP plunging itself into such a political gaffe. In her remarks, “They [NPP] have no shame. They don’t respect my proud people especially the youth of Essikado Ketan”.

She rebuked Madam Horma Miezah for being indecisive and rather gambling with the local politics of Essikado-Ketan.

“This is exactly what happens when you are shameless and you take a basket and go shopping for constituency (jumping from one to the other) like you are going to Makola to buy gari.”

Many party people of the NPP felt insulted by this, and had sworn to frustrate every single attempt by Horma Miezah to contest the local primaries. They disclosed that Horma Miezah is only seeking election for personal gains and not to serve the people, adding that she scarcily sticks to a position she is voted for.

“All she does is taking a position and within months start hunting for another. She cannot be trusted with our votes,” a disgruntled party member stated.

They concludes that Horma Miezah is a misfit for the constituency given her failed contest with Kwasi Bonzoh in the Ellembele Constituency of the Western Region. According to post that had flooded social media and local radio stations following this development, there are more suitable candidates who could take up the mantle as the incumbent parliamentarian, Joe Ghartey retires from local politics. Names such as Charles Bissue and Giovanni Osei Tutu Agyeman has already popped up as preferred candidates for the NPP Essikado-Ketan constituency.

One more allegation leveled against Horma Miezah is that she cannot be trusted to serve the interest of the people of Essikado-Ketan as she is not a native of the traditional area. Again, she is said to be politically inconsistent and exploitative given the switches she’s made since 2018.

About Hormah Miezah

Anna Horma Miezah switched camps from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2017. She contested the Western Regional Treasurer position and won in 2018. Months later [in 2019], she filed to contest the parliamentary primaries in Ellembele Constituency and lost to Kwasi Bonzo.

In December 2021 she was appointed as the Deputy CEO for the NLA. Using her position, she contested in June 2022 to retain her place as the Western Regional Treasurer for the NPP, contest she narrowly escaped defeat from her contender, Roda Efe Eshun.
