19 Unposted Trained Teachers granted Self recognizance Bail
The Adjabeng District court has referred the case between the state and some 19 Unposted Newly Trained teachers who were arrested at the forecourt of the Ghana education service to the alternative dispute resolution, ADR.
The court also granted the trained teachers a self recognizance bail.
Counsel for the accused persons, Bede Tukuu, described the action of the police as pathetic stressing that the Unposted teachers received text messages from the Ghana Education Service, GES, indicating that they were needed to continue with the process for their postings but upon arrival, they were told the GES had not sent the said messages and that what they received was fake.
The teachers, therefore, insisted they wanted confirmation from the human resource manager but the police were rather called in to arrest them.
Bede Tuguu argued, they did not cause any harm nor attempted to destroy any property as the charges from the police indicated.
He, therefore, expressed shock by the action of the police.
The court after some suggestions from the legal team of the teachers settled on an alternative dispute resolution mechanism to settle the matter.
The trained teachers would appear before the ADR on January 28, to commence the resolution.
The 19 teachers were arrested on January 13 at the forecourt of the Ghana education service with the charges of unlawful assembly and offensive conduct which they pleaded not guilty.
The case has been adjourned to January 29.
