The Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe has disclosed that, the number of workers who tested positive for Coronavirus (Covid-19) at a fish factory in Tema has risen to 695 after 162 new cases were confirmed.
Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, made this know during a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday May 18, 2020.
Giving an account of the work done in the factory to contain the infection, Dr Bekoe said initially 533 cases were positive but the number increased to 695 when further tests were conducted.
“The good news is that 624 have tested negative and are awaiting their second test results”, he added.
Dr Bekoe further indicated that the remaining 71 positive persons are asymptomatic and are being treated in isolation centers.
According to him, the factory has put in place prudent measures including social distancing and improved personal hygiene to curb and fight the novel coronavirus infection in the country.
Meanwhile, Ghana has recorded 5,918 Covid-19 cases with 31 deaths and 1,754 recoveries.
