The National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of Trades Union Congress (TUC), Nana Nimako Bresiamah has urged commercial drivers, bus conductors as well as passengers to adhere to the safety protocols of the coronavirus to help curb the spread of the virus.

The GPRTU chairman, further threatened to punish drivers who violates the precautionary protocols put in place by the government.

‘‘We will sanction any driver who refuses to enforce the adherence of the safety protocols. Any driver found guilty will seize to drive for one to three months as stated in our constitution’’ he noted.    

According to him, the Union deem it necessary to renew the announcement from President, Akufo-Addo’s call on the enforcement of Covid-19 safety protocols adding that “compliance must be strictly enforced and adhered by the commercial drivers”.

further, he disclosed that, the Management of the National Secretariat is putting adequate measures to ensure that all drivers and passengers within their operational jurisdiction comply with the safety protocols.

“compulsory wearing of nose must be enforced at all Lorry stations by the drivers, drivers mate, porters and the traveling masses before embarking on their journey, station masters and porters must provide enough Veronica buckets at all the loading points and terminals for hand washing, no face mask no entry must be explicitly displayed at the entrance of all the vehicles vehicles and the stations”, he said.
