The MCE for Ablekuma North, Kofi Ofori has commended farmers within his municipality as he has also promised the winner for next years’ best farmer of a brand new pickup vehicle.
He stated that,” the promise of a new pickup vehicle to the best farmer will help enhance productive and push other farmers to do more and produce more farm produce for the municipality.”
The MCE made this promise when the municipality joined the Nation to mark the 35th Farmers Day celebration when the assembly also held its mini celebration in Accra.
Mr Kofi Ofori added that, ”the assembly is happy with the achievements and efforts that farmers in the assembly have put up as he assured them of government and the assembly’s full support .”
The MCE also added that, ”as part of improving agriculture within the municipality, the assembly is constructing various road networks to help ease the stress of transporting the farm produce to the market.”
Also, the Ablekumah North municipal best farmer for 2019, Appiah Kubi Agyeman after receiving the award commended the government and the MCE for recognizing his effort in the aspect of poultry farming and creation of employment as he call on government to provide subsidies to poultry and crop farmers.
Meanwhile, a 58-year-old farmer, Charles Gyamfi from the Ahafo Region has been adjudged the 2019 National Best Farmer at a ceremony held in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.
The winner from the Tano North District has been farming for the past 25 years, producing cocoa, cassava, maize, garden eggs and citrus fruits among others.
The father of five also rears cattle, goats and poultry. He owns five boxes of bee hives, fish ponds and mans over a hundred employees.
The national award comes with a prize of the cedi equivalent of $100,000, a significant improvement from the event’s first edition in 1985 where the winner took home cutlasses.
