Kofi Asare Brako (affectionately known as Abatey), a well-known radio sports commentator, has praised female sports personlities for their involvement in sports coverage .

It was a joy to read Perpetual Crentsil and company back then, till the likes of Rosalind Amoh appeared. One lady I admire much for her achievements in a male-dominated sector, particularly in Ghana and internationally.

She’s one lady who combines both speaking and writing skills to the admiration of all. Put her on your TV screensl and she’ll be a great delight to watch. When it comes to writing too, I need not comment.

The likes of Mavis Akoto of Joy FM, and later Eva Okyere and Rashida of same radio station, really paid their dues though, but same way it’s a delight to read from the likes of Veronica Commey and watch and listen to the likes of Gloria Peprah of GTV Sports + fame.

Whilst others such as Linear Addy and Evelyn Nsiah Asare, plunged into sports administration at the highest level, through same profession as women sports journalists, the likes Mavis Amanor aka firelady of asempa fm who also serves on the club licence board of GFA as a member and Esther Abankwa of Angel TV, not forgetting Betty Yawson of Starr FM and others stand tall in recent times in women sports journalism in the country.

As for Akosua Adjei (GTV Sports +, Matilda Dzimedo (GFA Communications) Akosua Amankwaa (TV3), of course she was the mere reason I wanted to watch her piece on Black Princesses last night but I missed. These are strong and powerful women sports journalists of our time when you read and watch them speak on our TV screens these days.

In a nutshell, I’d like to think that both the quantity and quality of women’s sports coverage in Ghana has lifted since we started.
