Kwaku Agyekum Asare, a Member of the Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hinted that the Ghana police acted unprofessional during yesterday’s Arise Ghana Demonstration.
According to him, the police administration is lacking professionalism in handling any demonstration in the country. Adding that the police are to help and protect the citizens but not to harm them during demonstrations.
In an interview on ”Accra-Based Kingdom fm Anopa Nkomo” stated that every democratic country who understands democracy speaks through demonstration, anytime the youth thinks things are not going on well or the government in power is not performing.
”Demonstration is the only way for youth to speak to the government in power, adding that what happened yesterday was awful at the side of the police” he said.
“We cannot have our people who are just demonstrating over some things they feel are not right in the country, treated this way”, he bemoaned.
“This is not the way to treat people who are demonstrating to register their displeasure”.
This comes after Arise Ghana demonstrators clashed with the police phalanx amid the firing of rubber bullets and tear gas, there were injuries on both sides.
So far 29 of the demonstrators have been arrested.
The police, in a statement, condemned the breach of the agreement by the demonstrators.
