President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured customers of defunct DKM Microfinance that all of them will be paid by the end of September this year.
According to him, government has made all necessary arrangements to ensure that a total of 74,000 validated customers of defunct DKM Microfinance will be paid.
“In the case of specialised-deposit taking institutions that had their licences revoked by the Bank of Ghana, 98 per cent of the affected customers have been paid fully while all depositors of liquidated banks under my administration have been fully paid,’’ President Nana Akufo-Addo exclusively told Kwaku Owusu Adjei on ‘Pae Mu Ka’ on Sunyani-based Kingdom FM 99.3.
President Akufo-Addo disclosed that, 90,353 claims were received since DKM went receivership, out of which 1,393 were rejected, leaving 88,962 validated customers.
“The money is ready with the receiver and she is paying now, “he reiterated.
The President said government had laid a solid foundation covering all spectrum of the economy to help transit the country to the “next level.”
The payments to depositors of DKM and other microfinance companies that collapsed from 2015 is expected to hit 5 billion cedis, according to the government.
DKM alone had more than 2,000 verified customers in four main branches in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, Wa in Upper West, and two other branches in Sunyani in the Bono Region.
The Registrar-General, Jemima Oware, selected as the liquidator, has completed a ‘laborious’ process of verifying and validating claims.
