Public Relation Officer for the Ghana Prison Service DSP Kofi Opoku has lamented bitterly over the government inability to provide adequate equipment to make their work easy and efficient.

Only a few Prisons in Ghana have CCTV cameras and body scanners, this he said is a major challenge for them in carrying out their duties.

‘’A developing country like Ghana, is very shameful to have only three CCTV cameras in the country for investigations’’ he noted.

Speaking on Accra-based Kingdom Fm ‘Anopa Nkommo with Okogyeabour Ocran, said their work as prison officers would have been better if they had been provided with the necessary tools and gadgets.

‘’We face lots of challenges due to the lack of CCTV cameras and body scanners, because anybody can come and visit an inmate and then give him some material that can be harmful to the rest of the inmates’’. He explains.

‘’I believe with the CCTV and Body Scanners we can be able to identify who is carrying what and know what to do at the particular moment, this I think it would help us deliver our best’’ he claims.

He therefore appeals to the general public and government to support the prison service with tools such as body scanners and CCTV cameras to make their work easy.
