Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has asked the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to take immediate steps and protect the Volta basin from private developers and encroachers.

He said the basin has great potential to hold significant petroleum resources and tasked the Security Council to step up their surveillance towards the prevention of activities that seek to jeopardise onshore oil exploration in the interest of the country.

Mr. Jinapor, who is touring the Oti Region, reiterated that the vision of President Akufo-Addo is to ensure that the resources of the country are harnessed for equitable development.

He said the government is determined that matters relating to lands and natural resources sector is decentralised to ensure all issues are addressed.

He said the enforcement of all matters relating to land and natural resources are in the hands of the various Regional Security Councils, adding “you are therefore to take full control of the security architecture in the regions and also protect public lands.”

Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu, assured the sector minister of the region’s preparedness to help protect the lands and natural resources of the country.

He also pledged his unwavering support to the sector minister to enhance operations in the lands and natural resources sector.
