NDC Will Abolish Double Track If Voted Into Power In 2020- Otokunor

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor, has revealed that NDC will abolish the double-track educational system as soon as they are voted into power in 2020.

The Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration recently adopted the double-tracking system to accommodate the increasing number of students in public schools under the Free SHS policy which was introduced in September 2017.

“When we come to power in 2020, the first thing we will do is, we will abolish the double-tracking system. Bad planning is what has created the impression of overcrowding in schools,” Otokunor told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7.

“We are not in opposition for affordable education but we believe it must be implemented appropriately. We will work hard to abolish the double track system as soon as possible.”

The double-track system which consists of the green and gold batch was introduced by the President Akufo-Addo’s administration to afford the government with the capacity to deal with a large number of Senior High school placements where some students will not have had the opportunity to access Free SHS as a result of lack of classroom space.

Describing the policy as a ‘Shambolic’ one – he said his party will not hesitate to scrap it without even reviewing it.

The Ministry has pointed out that the double-tracking system shall offer students more instructional and contact hours with teachers as well as make better use of the available classroom space.
