Asokwa Municipal Assembly Supports 43 Persons With Disability


43 persons from the Asokwa Branch of the Ghana Federation of Disabled Organisations (GFDO) have gotten items as well as cash from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly (ASKMA) to start a trade or begin businesses of their choice.

Drawn from individual groups within the Association such as the Ghana Blind Union, the Ghana Association of Deaf and Dumb, Burns Survival Union, Physically Challenged Union, Share Care, Persons With Albinism and Inclusive Ghana, beneficiaries were given sewing machines, deep freezers, bags of charcoal, flour, margarine, sugar, beans as well as metallic containers.

Other beneficiaries who needed cash to expand their businesses had GHC 31, 160.00 to share for the various projects presented.

Speaking at a brief ceremony Friday morning, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokwa, Chief Akwannuasa Gyimah tasked the Federation to ensure the beneficiaries use the items and funds for the intended purposes.

‘’I am tasking your federation as well as your individual associations to ensure items and monies given to these beneficiaries are used for the purposes they requested for from the Assembly’’, Mr. Akwannuasa stressed.


Chairing the occasion, Nana Mensah Bonsu, Chief of Kaase commended the Assembly for the gesture and encouraged them to do more for the vulnerable.

He asked the beneficiaries to keep the items in good shape to ensure it lasts long for the purposes they requested them for.


Commending the Assembly for the support they are giving out, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa asked the beneficiaries to be diligent in the work they use the items for.

She noted that the Akufo-Addo administration is concerned about the wellbeing of persons with disability as well as the vulnerable hence the increase in the rate of the common fund to PWDs in the country.


On her part, Madam Gifty Afi Wetsi, Vice-President for the Ghana Federation of Disabled Organizations lauded the Asokwa Assembly for its assistance.

She asked beneficiaries to prove to the Assembly the support given to them was needed by working to improve their lot and others in the Municipality.


Kwabena Akando, a middle-aged physically challenged person thanked the Assembly for providing him with a deep freezer.

This, he noted will enable him to sell some soft drinks, iced-water, and other drinkables to enable him to fend for himself and his family members.

He also on behalf of the other 42 beneficiaries thanked the Assembly for the gesture and asked the government to do more to improve a lot of PWDs and the vulnerable in the society.
