E/R : Cocoa Farmers Want Gov’t To Enact Laws To Protect Cocoa Trees

Cocoa farmers in the Eastern Region are appealing to the government to quickly enact laws to protect cocoa trees to save their toils.

Cocoa trees, specifically at Afisa near Kyebi are perpetually being destroyed all in the name of mining concessions.

A section of the aggrieved cocoa farmers told Kingdom FM’s Eastern Regional Correspondent, Kofi Oboh that about 50 acres of cocoa plantation in the area are currently due to be cut down to pave way for mining.

One of the victims, Adusei Isaac wants the government to urgently save their cocoa trees by coming to their aid so their long toil does not be in vain.

‘Our cocoa trees are being destroyed because mining companies have taken over our lands because of concessions and we want the government to help us immediately to save our cocoa trees’.

‘Cocoa is the backbone of the country and all our Leaders came to meet it, so they must do everything possible under their powers to make sure that nobody should destroy cocoa trees in the country. If a law is enacted, it will solve the indiscriminate cutting and destruction of cocoa trees.

The President for Concern Farmers Association, Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonsu has asked the government to solve the issue to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.
