Deputy Education Minister Spearheads Adolescent Reproductive Health Awareness

The Deputy Minister of Education In Charge of Technical and Vocational Education and also MP for Abuakwa North Constituency in the E/R, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo has in collaboration with Goodnews Foundation  organized Adolescent Reproductive Health Awareness workshop for all the Junior High Schools (J.HS) 1 and 2 in her constituency for them to take a good care of themselves as they reach that  stage in life.

According to the Hon. Deputy Minister of Education, the Chiefs, Assembly members, and the Leaders of the Sorkode Juaso where the programme took place, told her that, over 70-80% of the school girls get pregnant when they get to J.H.S. two(2) and as a result they drop out from school.

Again over 41-50% of the boys at that that stage, feel they have grown and start chasing many ladies in the town and later would not see no attraction in school adding that this cuts off the wheel of development especially at Sorkode Juaso and its environs.

She stressed such workshops would enlighten them to control their feelings and stay away from any sexually immorality to become good leaders of this great country.

Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo also tasked parents to be up and doing by making sure that their wards go to bed on time and also ensure that their door is well locked before they themselves finally retire to bed.

‘Doing these things would help reduce teenage pregnancy’, she opined.

Reacting to the statement by President Nana Addo that, there has been inadequate dynamism activism on the Women’s front to occupy position of power in recent Women Deliver Conference in Canada, she said , Nana Addo didn’t say that women were not performing, but rather their performance were not good enough and therefore they have to up their game to get to the top notch positions across the world.
